Upcoming Games… We Can’t Wait!

Well look at that – it’s mid-month again, and time for another blog post! E3 unveiled a load of new video game accessories and games for the coming year – and while there will be the majority of people licking their lips over Move, Kinect and the 3DS, it’s some of the smaller game titles that have caught my eye.

First things first, I’m looking forward to the yearly iterations of the FIFA and Madden series (and cannot wait to play even FIFA 08 on my 42″ HD TV when the move finally comes, but don’t get me started on that solicitor-delayed rant) – but there’s a few other titles that I really can’t wait to get my hands on. What Grinds My Gears: Video Game Updates

Last night, my fiance decided to have a quick game of Little Big Planet on the PS3. Although we’re currently not heavy gamers (more due to our environment than anything else), Little Big Planet is one of those games we like playing, especially to have a quick blast of the vast array of created levels. Mini Thoughts: Wrestling, Kanyon, Travel, Tech

It’s been a while since I’ve done an update on here… since WrestleMania, in fact. But nothing much has really grabbed my eye, so rather than a long, badly thought out post about nothing, here’s a long, badly thought out post about a lot of little things! (more…)

PlayStation Move – Adding On The Hype

When Nintendo launched the Wii back in 2006, it was the latest innovation in a console war that lately had just consisted of ever improving graphics. Instead of controlling games by pressing buttons on a pad, games could now be controlled by moving a remote control around in the air. Yeah, to someone who isn’t a fan of video games, it sounded dumb, but it turned out to be one of the biggest attractions for casual gamers in years. (more…)

Sunderland AFC iPhone App Review

It’s quite apt for the first iPhone app review on this site to be for the newly-launched Sunderland AFC app…

Launched today at the (quite expensive for an app) price of £2.99, it would be unfair to say that this is a straight facsimile of the club’s official website. Granted, it does give you access to the latest news stories, match updates and other content that you can get for free from the website, but it provides it in a neat layout that doesn’t require you to have to wait for all of the adverts that usually clog up the website (at least, when you’re not in a strong 3G area!) “Fixed” PS3 Bug Sheds Light On Problem

Well, I guess it really was the leap year bug – I turned my PS3 on half an hour ago, only to be told it was March 1, 2010… confirmation, if you needed it, that this whole charade was down to the console taking March 1, 2010 (in reality) as February 29, 2010.

Still, the wrong date thing is nothing a quick visit to the settings menu can’t fix, but I’ll be wondering if Sony’ll be able to avoid a repeat in 2014 without having to have everyone buy new machines.

Anyway, no damage has been done to my PS3. If only I’d managed to grab the right episode of Kitchen Nightmares – instead of an unaired repeat from season 2 that’s somehow managed to sneak into the lineup as a “new” episode!

Coming soon… random iPhone app reviews, sports talk (are Sunderland doomed?), something from the past, and perhaps some random game reviews…

PS3 clock bug fixed

So the PS3 bug has apparently fixed itself – according to Joystiq (http://tinyurl.com/yl5tqnk)… I’ve not turned mine on since February, but all of the signs appear to be good.

Still, it’s sad that a £300 (at launch date) piece of equipment can be felled by something as simple as the concept of a leap year!

PS3 staying off for now!

Well, I was planning to turn on my PS3 tonight, if at least to take a screenshot of what I would expect to be a screwed up console. That ain’t happening folks, especially not after Sony’s latest update, in which they effectively tell people with the old-style PS3 not to turn it on!

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

It all but looks like the bug is being caused by the PS3 thinking that today is February 29, 2010 in some weird manifestation of what people call the Y2K+10 bug. Ah well, guess I’ll be watching my media through my PC for once tonight!

Sony Glitch Locks Out Old PS3s?

According to a story on TheRegister – http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2010/03/01/chubby_ps3_psn_lockout/ – and just about everywhere else, as February turned to March, old-style PS3s were locked out of Sony’s PlayStation Network.

Horror stories so far include being unable to play games and even data loss, but weirdly people with the new “slim” PS3s are mainly unaffected.

As someone with an old PS3 and a custom installed hard drive, I’m kinda hoping that mine isn’t affected, and that I’ll not be going home to nothing more than a BluRay player tonight!

More to follow…

The Ultimate Red Ball Challenge – Wii review

Ultimate Red Ball Challenge - Wii cover art

When you think of TV gameshows that could make a good videogame, there aren’t many that spring to mind nowadays. With half-hearted conversions of shows like Golden Balls, Countdown and Family Fortunes on the Wii, you’d be forgiven for just sticking with TV Game Show King for your virtual gameshow fix.

And you still are. (more…)
